WYT is part of Wirral Youth and Play Service and has been succesfully developing leading edge arts education programmes for over twenty years and is currently working with the support of the national charity Youth Music on three exciting projects. The work is delivered in house, at Pacific Road Arts Centre and as part of an outreach programme in schools and community settings.
The workshops provide music opportunities for groups of Wirral young people aged 13+ and for those 16+ there is provision for peer educating training, working towards accreditation for V or Arts Awards. This is a programme of skills building for young people which provides fantastic opportunities to develop bands and vocal training.
Sound Steps Band Workshops
Whether young people play or are considering learning to play an instrument e.g. guitar, drums or keyboards, or are interested in making music using music technology, these sessions are designed specifically around their needs. Young people work with like minded musicians, professional musicians and experienced facilitators towards regular gigs at Pacific Roadand other Merseyside venues.
Sound Steps Vocal Workshops
Working with a professional vocal coach, young people will improve their vocal skills by taking part in group and solo singing. They will also practice harmony skills and work with a mix of contemporary music including Pop, R'n'B and Rock. Whether participants are complete beginners or experienced singers, there is value in completing these fun and energised sessions.
Voltage - V Music Volunteer Programme
Voltage is a music volunteering programme for young people aged 16-25 supported by the National Foundation for Youth Music. Funded by V, the youth volunteering charity, Voltage gives young people the chance to act as ambassadors for music and make a positive difference to their community. Voltage aims to help young people build confidence and gain new skills with the opportunity to acquire rewards and accreditation for their contributions to the programme. Voltage is being implemented across England and WYT has been selected to deliver in Merseyside.
A pan-Merseyside project supported by the National Association for Youth Music and designed to give young bands an opportunity to perform and develop their skills. Bands and solo artists will be assisted to organise and play their own gigs in venues such as the Picket in Liverpool and Pacific Road. We will also be offering young women additional workshops and a recording project to help develop their skills and increase their performance opportunities.
