John Kirk

My name is John and I specialise in drama workshops and theatre for young people and schools. In 2007 I decided to establish myself as a creative practitioner presenting "Captain Jack and the Space Invaders".

Since then my work has diversified and in 2010 I completed an OCR accreditation scheme which formally recognises my workshop and facilitation skills.  Today I practice as a storyteller, drama facilitator and creative practitioner.

Through my work I am committed to enhancing the learning experience by combining dynamic and imaginative ideas with a variety of presentation techniques and learning strategies.  I enjoy devising inclusive, participatory workshops and performances which can be easily accessed and enjoyed by everybody.

I am an accomplished storyteller, I enjoy bringing stories to life by mixing a variety of presentation techniques and learning strategies with dynamic and imaginative ideas.

I offer bespoke storytelling and will write a story to meet your needs.

Previous work includes:

Introducing... Richmal Crompton's "Just William" - Lasting 40-60 minutes and incorporating puppetry, dance, music and games, this performance exposes audiences to the world of William Brown, the work of Richmal Crompton and offers an insight into being a child during the 1920s.

@ The Space Hop! (Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Libraries) - Dewey Fiction lead groups of space cadets on an intergalactic adventure in which they conquered the Book Worm's devious cryptic riddles to reach a cosmic party at the edge of the universe.

Activities included role play, problem solving and imaginative play exercises and the performance concluded with a conga line!  This presentation was accompanied by a literacy and craft activity session.

Introducing...Bram Stoker's "Dracula" - A number of unusual incidents, strange goings on and even monster sightings have been reported.  Celebrated monster hunter Professor Abraham Van Helsing has been called, and with his help, audiences are invited to follow clues and unravel the mystery.

I am an accomplished Drama Workshop Facilitator.

In Primary and Secondary Schools and Sixth Form Colleges I offer skills based sessions, drama consultancy and work as a Youth Director. I have led workshops relating to Shakespeare, improvisation, devising and storytelling.

I regularly work in informal learning environments and am happy to tailor a workshop to meet your needs.

I am an accomplished Heritage Interpreter and have worked with a variety of Museums, Galleries and Schools on heritage projects.  I think heritage is an important part of identity and enjoy examining people's heritage so that they can reconsider their relationship with places.

I offer staff training and have worked with schools, arts organisations and local authorities.

I also offer bespoke training and will tailor a workshop to meet your needs.

Previous work includes:

An Olympic INSET session in Woodhall Spa - On the 3rd of January 2012 I was invited to Woodhall Spa to lead a unique creative INSET.

Five Primary Schools represented by over 40 members of staff took part in a full day of activities.

In the morning we explored storytelling and storybuilding exercises.  In the afternoon we considered the Olympics and how creative practice can be incorporated into a unique project promoting the Olympic Values and lasting legacy for the schools and their communities whilst offering exciting cross curricular learning opportunities.
